The Invisible Threat: Who Controls Your Data When AI Agents Do the Work?


Abstract

Everytime you delegate a task to an AI agent, whether it's booking a flight, drafting an email, managing your calendar, or executing a transaction, you hand over something far more valuable than time: your data. Unlike traditional software that sits still until you click something, autonomous AI agents are always moving. They access systems, call APIs, read your documents, and make decisions on your behalf, often without sending you a single notification. There is a silent data economy operating beneath the surface of AI agent technology, and most people have no idea it exists. Agents collect personal, behavioral, and organizational data as a natural byproduct of doing their jobs. That data flows across third-party tools, cloud environments, and model providers in ways that are rarely disclosed and almost never audited. And the privacy frameworks we rely on were simply never designed for systems that act, remember, and learn on their own. But knowing about a problem is not the same as solving it. This keynote delivers a practical framework for the three groups who need to work together to actually close the gap. Individuals need to understand what their AI tools know about them, what permissions they have quietly granted, and how to take back control without giving up the productivity benefits they came for. Enterprises need governance models, data minimization strategies, and agent access controls in place before a breach forces the conversation. Regulators and policymakers need to reckon with the fact that GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA were written for humans making decisions, not machines executing them at scale. The AI agent revolution is moving fast. The infrastructure protecting people from its risks is not keeping up. This session is a call to change that, before someone else decides who owns your data for you.
